For Jenna Evans, a bizarre dream turned into an equally strange reality. The San Diego woman accidentally swallowed her engagement ring while fast asleep, leading to an unexpected trip to the hospital.

One Tuesday night, Evans dreamed she was on a high-speed train with her fiancé, Bobby, battling against a group of “bad guys.” In her dream, Bobby urged her to swallow her engagement ring to keep it safe from their enemies. Without hesitation, she complied—both in the dream and in real life. When she woke up, the ring was nowhere to be found on her finger.

“As soon as I realized it wasn’t on my hand, I knew exactly where it was,” Evans recalled. “It was in my stomach.”

The next day, Evans and Bobby rushed to an urgent care clinic, where an X-ray confirmed their suspicions: the engagement ring was clearly visible in her stomach. While initially hoping that it would pass naturally, a gastroenterologist advised against that option. Instead, doctors recommended an upper endoscopy, a procedure to safely retrieve the ring.

“I was relieved,” Evans laughed, “because honestly, I don’t know if I could’ve looked at the ring the same way if I had to, you know, ‘find it’ myself.”

As the day wore on, Evans began to feel the ring in her stomach, and discomfort started to set in. Fortunately, doctors successfully performed the endoscopy, removing the ring from her intestines without complications. They promptly returned the ring—although Bobby held onto it for safekeeping for a while.

Eventually, Bobby placed the engagement ring back on Evans’ finger, where it belongs.

“I’m just so thankful to have it back, and I’m glad this turned out to be more of a funny story than a disaster,” Evans said.

This unusual incident gave new meaning to the phrase “a sparkling bride, inside and out.” From now on, Evans says she takes off the ring before going to bed.

The couple is set to marry in May 2020 in Texas, and they’re hopeful the ring will stay on her finger this time around.
